The Frames of Mind Monthly Mental Health Film Series is a long-running and award-winning public education program that uses film as a springboard for meaningful dialogue about mental health and illness.
Each monthly screening pairs a thoughtfully selected feature or documentary with a moderated post-film discussion involving clinicians, researchers, people with lived experience, and the general public. By bringing together cinema and evidence-informed perspectives, the series fosters public education, reduces stigma, and encourages community engagement around complex psychiatric and psychological issues.
Hosted in Vancouver at the Cinematheque theatre, and supported by the UBC Deptartment of Psychiatry, UBC’s Institute of Mental Health and partnerships with mental health organizations, it has become a respected forum where storytelling and scholarship intersect.
Programmer: Selina Crammond, a film curator and cultural worker based in Vancouver on the unceded Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh territories.
Programmer emeritus: Caroline Coutts, film curator, filmmaker, and programmer of Frames of Mind from its inception in September 2002 to September 2023.
